The drive is about fifty minutes from Cape Town, which makes Stellenbosch close enough for a single-evening service and far enough to feel like another world. Estate lodges, town guesthouses and farm cottages all work — we cook in all three.

Why Stellenbosch is special for private dining

This is the town the country's restaurant awards keep circling — a place where the gap between a top dining room and a great private dinner is smaller than anywhere else in the Cape. Cooking here means cooking for people who notice. Our menus lean into that: Cape ingredients, estate wines, no shortcuts.

Season matters. In September the waterblommetjie — the Cape water flower — comes into season, and a waterblommetjie bredie on a spring estate menu is as local as food gets. Autumn turns the vineyards amber for the wedding window; harvest season puts the whole valley to work around your dinner.

The town itself is worth the early arrival: oak-lined streets, Cape Dutch architecture, and a student-energy café culture. Guests staying in town rather than on an estate get the same service — we cook in guesthouse and townhouse kitchens as readily as manor houses.

Estate logistics, handled

Estate kitchens range from manor-house sculleries to converted farm cottages; we confirm equipment and access with your venue or farm manager before the day. Load-in uses the service route, not the guest entrance, and late finishes past 22:00 trigger the published staff-accommodation rule — itemised, approved upfront.

Sourcing shifts local out here: estate farm stalls, valley butchers and the town's specialist shops cover most of the list, and anything the valley does not grow comes with us from Cape Town. Groceries bill at cost either way, receipts on the invoice.

  • Venue coordination on access, kitchens and curfews
  • Service-route load-in, invisible to guests
  • Staff accommodation after 22:00 finishes, quoted upfront
  • Team departs Cape Town early — traffic buffers built in

Wedding weekends and group stays

Stellenbosch is the Winelands' wedding capital, and the weekend pattern is established: a braai or harvest table the night before, the wedding itself, and a recovery brunch the morning after. We quote the whole weekend as one itemised plan — menus from R795 per person for the wedding tier, recovery brunch from R395 — with travel and any accommodation shown once, upfront.

For non-wedding group stays, estate lodges sleeping eight to sixteen are the usual venue. A full-day chef (from R6,900 plus groceries at cost) covers breakfast through dinner, which is how most groups actually want to live out here.
