Can you work around the wind on the strip?

Yes. We time plated courses to the evening lull where possible, seat courses on the sheltered side of the terrace, and for braais we position grills out of the southeaster. Your chef checks the forecast for your date and plans service around it.

Is my villa kitchen big enough?

Almost always. A standard hob, oven and counter space is enough for dinners up to about sixteen guests. Send photos during the consult; where kitchens are compact we bring induction backup and adjust the menu so nothing suffers.

Where do you park and load in?

We load in early, before your evening starts, and park off-street wherever the villa allows. Camps Bay's slopes and tight strip parking are factored into arrival times — your guests never see the load-in.

How far ahead should I book for December?

For the 26 December–7 January super-peak, book six to eight weeks ahead — earlier for Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, which carry the published 2× multiplier. Other December dates usually clear with three to four weeks' notice.

This is our most-booked suburb, and it is easy to see why. Holiday villas here let at R15,000–25,000 a night in peak season, cut into the slope under the Twelve Apostles with terraces built for exactly one thing: dinner while the sun drops into the Atlantic.

Why Camps Bay is special for private dining

The strip has restaurants. What it does not have is a restaurant that closes its doors for your table alone, paces courses to your evening and lets the kids fall asleep upstairs. In a Camps Bay villa, the best seat in the suburb is the one you already paid for.

Timing is everything here. In December the sun sets behind the Apostles at about 20:00, so we plate the main at 19:30 and let dessert land in the afterglow. In June, sunset is closer to 17:45 — the whole menu shifts earlier and the fire does more of the work.

Then there is the wind. The Cape Doctor funnels down the strip most summer afternoons, but the lee side of most villa terraces — and the evening lull — is kinder. Your chef plans the service around the forecast, not despite it.

Camps Bay kitchens range from showpiece sculleries to compact galley setups wedged into older beach houses. We ask for photos during the menu consult, and where the hob is optimistic we bring induction plates and plan the menu around what your kitchen can genuinely do.

Parking on the strip is tight and the slopes are steep. Our team loads in early, parks off-street where the villa allows, and carries mise en place up the steps so service starts on time. Load-shedding windows are checked against your booking date; gas hobs and the braai keep the menu honest either way.

Where we shop for a Camps Bay dinner

Shopping happens the morning of your dinner, not the week before. Linefish comes from Atlantic Seaboard fishmongers — snoek and yellowtail in the summer season — and produce from Gardens delis and the Oranjezicht City Farm Market. Groceries are billed at cost with receipts attached to your invoice.

If you have a bottle you have been saving, tell us in the consult and the menu is built around it. Kreef appears only in the gazetted season and only from licensed commercial suppliers — when it is on, it is worth planning the whole dinner around.

Ke Dezemba is real here: the super-peak window of 26 December to 7 January books out first, and our festive multipliers are published rather than negotiated — 1.5× on public holidays, 2× on 25 and 31 December and 1 January. Shoulder season (March–April, October–November) is the local secret: same sunsets, calmer wind, easier dates.

Occasions we cook in Camps Bay

Proposal dinners on the terrace at 19:30 sharp, bachelorette brunches that roll into sunset, milestone birthdays where the whole family flies in and fills the villa — Camps Bay hosts them all, and the format flexes. Canapé-heavy for groups that graze, plated four-course for occasions with speeches, braai-led for the National Braai Day crowd in September.

For festive villa weeks, the pattern is a chef on dinner service across the stay, with the 7-day bundle covering longer bookings at roughly ten percent below stacked day rates. Groceries always bill at cost, receipts attached, so a fortnight of eating in stays honest.
