Clifton, covered
myCHEF serves Clifton with signature dinners from R1,050 per person, villa chef stays and dinners for two — travel included, because Clifton is Zone 1. Service is quiet, punctual and itemised in a fixed quote before you commit.
Clifton is the most exclusive coastline in the country, and its best tables are private by nature. Oceanfront villas here let at R15,000–45,000 a night; some ultra-premium addresses bundle a chef into the rate. We serve the rest — the many superb villas where the kitchen is yours to fill.
Why Clifton is special for private dining
The four coves are the point. When the Cape Doctor flattens Camps Bay two kilometres south, Clifton's boulder-sheltered beaches often sit in relative calm — the same microclimate that protects the beach protects your terrace dinner. We still plan around the forecast, but Clifton gives a chef more leeway than anywhere on the Seaboard.
Access is the other signature. Clifton's villas are cut into a near-vertical slope, reached by steps — sometimes dozens of them — between the road and the front door. Groceries, crates and equipment arrive the same way your guests do: on foot, carried carefully, timed before anyone dresses for dinner.
Discretion is assumed. Small teams, no branded vehicles lingering on Kloof Road, service that ends with a spotless kitchen and a closed door. What happens at a Clifton table stays at a Clifton table.
The booking mix reflects the address: anniversary dinners for two, quiet family celebrations, visiting founders hosting six-person tables where the conversation matters more than the scene. Every format is available, but the default posture here is understatement.

Access, steps and villa logistics
Tell us your villa's access in the consult and we plan around it. Many Clifton properties have a service entrance or a goods route that avoids the famous steps; where they do not, we schedule an earlier load-in and bring equipment in backpack-sized loads.
Kitchens here are usually excellent — this is a suburb of serious renovation — but counter space and refrigeration still get confirmed in advance. For stays of three nights or more, the 7-day villa bundle is the only published weekly rate of its kind in Cape Town.
Sourcing for Clifton tables runs through the same morning shop as the rest of the Seaboard: linefish from Atlantic Seaboard fishmongers, produce from Gardens delis and the Oranjezicht market, and wine bought at cost with receipts. For dinners for two — an anniversary above Third Beach, say — the couple package from R3,900 covers menu, styling and service without a restaurant's clock.
- Access notes taken in the consult — steps, lifts, service entrances
- Early, quiet load-in before guests dress for dinner
- Kitchen and cold-storage confirmed per villa
- Weekly bundle available for longer Clifton stays
A sample evening in Clifton
A signature dinner for eight, third cove, mid-summer. Clifton's shelter lets us run slightly later than the wind-exposed suburbs.
- 0115:00 — chef and assistant arrive via the service entrance, prep begins
- 0218:45 — canapés and a poured Cap Classique on the terrace
- 0319:15 — first course as the light softens over the water
- 0419:50 — main plated at sunset, around 19:50–20:00 in December
- 0520:45 — dessert and coffee; the cove goes quiet
- 0622:00 — kitchen reset to better-than-found, team departs
Stays longer than a dinner
Clifton bookings are rarely one night. The pattern that works best is a villa chef across the stay: breakfast when the house wakes, a light lunch by the pool, and a proper dinner when the cove goes gold. Full-day coverage runs from R6,900 per day plus groceries at cost, and the 7-day bundle from R38,500 is the only published weekly rate of its kind in Cape Town.
A chef on stay also absorbs the logistics that make Clifton hard: the steps, the parking, the deliveries. Your house manager gets one point of contact and a fridge that stays stocked; you get a holiday where nobody cooks, nobody drives, and nobody books anything.
When the wind does reach the coves
On the handful of summer days when the southeaster bends into Clifton too, service moves inside the glass line or to the villa's sheltered courtyard — the menu does not change, only the room. Winter is the underrated season here: calm, crisp evenings, earlier sunsets, and a braai or slow braise suits the mood.
The coves' shelter also makes Clifton the safest bet on the coast for an outdoor dinner in the shoulder months. October and April regularly deliver still, warm evenings when the rest of the Seaboard is chasing napkins down the terrace.
