Franschhoek, covered

The valley is about an hour and a quarter from Cape Town. That distance is exactly why the travel terms are published to the rand: at this range, honesty about logistics is the whole product.

Why Franschhoek is special for private dining

Huguenot-founded and tourist-curated, Franschhoek has spent three centuries becoming the Cape's gourmet valley. Ultra-premium country houses and boutique estates line a single dramatic valley, and the dining standard is set nationally. A private dinner here is not a fallback for a restaurant booking — done properly, it is the upgrade.

Early December brings the Cap Classique and Champagne festival, when the valley fills and accommodation peaks. We plan festival-weekend services around road closures and estate curfews, and December dates carry the published festive multipliers — 1.5× public holidays, 2× on the super-peak days.

The wine-tram crowd returns to their lodges by late afternoon; a private dinner starts where the day's tasting left off. Send us the farms you visited and the bottles you bought, and the evening's pairing continues the story at your own table.

Zone 3 logistics, in the open

The team departs Cape Town with a buffer for the N1 and the pass. For dinners ending before 22:00, the team drives home the same night. For later finishes — weddings, long lunches that become dinners — we book staff accommodation in or near the valley and show it as its own quote line. You approve everything before a deposit moves.

Valley venues add their own rules — noise curfews, open-flame restrictions in fire season, preferred supplier lists. We confirm all three with your host in the week before, so nothing about the evening is improvised on a working wine farm.

  • R500–800/day travel, itemised, never multiplied on festive dates
  • Staff accommodation after 22:00, approved upfront
  • Venue and estate coordination before the day
  • Festival-weekend planning for early December

Seasons in the valley

Franschhoek is at its most theatrical in autumn, when the vines turn red and gold against the mountains — the second wedding window, and the hardest season to get a table anywhere in the valley. A private dinner sidesteps that entirely. Spring brings blossom and the first outdoor lunches; winter means fireside menus in country houses built for exactly that.

Summer is festival season: the Cap Classique weekend in early December, then the festive super-peak. Book those dates six to eight weeks out, and expect the published multipliers on public holidays — shown on the quote, never sprung later.
