The Winelands, covered

myCHEF serves the Cape Winelands from Cape Town: private chef dinners from R850 per person, estate events and pairing-first menus in Stellenbosch (about 50 minutes out), Paarl (45–60), Somerset West (40–50) and Franschhoek (about an hour and a quarter).

Winelands service carries a published travel fee — R300–500 per day for Zone 2 towns, R500–800 for Zone 3 — and one firm rule: for finishes after 22:00, staff accommodation is arranged and itemised in your quote. No surprises, no negotiation theatre.

How Winelands pricing works

The menu prices are identical to the city. What changes is the travel line: Stellenbosch, Paarl and Somerset West sit in Zone 2 at R300–500 per day per team; Franschhoek and beyond is Zone 3 at R500–800 per day.

Late finishes are the honest complication. A dinner that ends at 21:30 lets the team drive home; a wedding that plates dessert at 23:00 does not. After 22:00, we book staff accommodation near your venue and show it as its own line on the quote — you approve it before anything is paid.

Festive multipliers apply exactly as they do in the city: 1.5× on public holidays, 2× on 25 and 31 December and 1 January. The travel fee is never multiplied.

The towns we serve

Each Winelands town has its own page with genuinely local detail. The short version:

Drive times quoted are from central Cape Town in normal traffic. Friday afternoons and festival weekends add buffers we build into load-in schedules — the team leaves early so your service time never moves.

  • Stellenbosch — the food-and-wine capital; oak-lined streets, estate lodges, waterblommetjie season in September (Zone 2)
  • Franschhoek — the gourmet valley; Huguenot-founded, Cap Classique festival in early December (Zone 3)
  • Paarl — the working-farm town; bigger reds, fewer crowds, easy to combine with Stellenbosch (Zone 2)
  • Somerset West & Helderberg — False Bay-side estates and golf-estate living, closest of the four (Zone 2)

Pairing-first in wine country

In the Winelands the wine leads and the menu follows. Tell us the estate you are staying on — or the bottles you have been cellaring all week — and we build courses around them. Our sommelier add-on (from R450 pp) hosts the table through an SA-only pairing; world-class estates have proven that is a strength, not a limitation.

Estate etiquette matters here. We coordinate with your venue or farm manager on kitchen access, load-in routes and curfews before the day — wine farms run on their own rhythms, and dinner should move with them.

Multi-day Winelands bookings are where the value concentrates: a Friday dinner, a Saturday braai and a Sunday recovery brunch share one travel arrangement and one grocery run. Quote the whole weekend at once and the per-meal cost drops noticeably against three separate city-style bookings.

A sample estate evening

A harvest dinner for fourteen on a Stellenbosch estate, autumn — the season the valley turns amber.

  2. 0215:00 — load-in via the estate's service route, prep in the manor kitchen
  3. 0318:00 — canapés on the werf with the estate's MCC
  4. 0418:45 — first course paired to the estate's white

When to come: the Winelands calendar

Spring (September–November) is waterblommetjie season and the first wedding window — mild days, green vines, estates at their most photogenic. Autumn (March–May) is the second wedding window and harvest, when the valleys turn amber and menus shift to richer reds and slower cooking.

Summer is festival season: Franschhoek's Cap Classique festival in early December, then the festive super-peak with its published multipliers. Winter is the insider's window — fireplaces, fewer crowds, whale-season weekends on the False Bay side, and estate rates that make a chef-led weekend suddenly reasonable.

The honest part: we are new here

myCHEF has operated in Bali and Dubai since 2015, but Cape Town is our newest kitchen — and the Winelands is served from the city, not from a Franschhoek office. That is why the travel fees are published to the rand and the staff-accommodation rule is in writing.

Reviews publish on this site as events are delivered. Until then, the quote, the guarantee strip and the cancellation tiers are the pitch.
