The premium end of a Cape tradition
A spit braai is Cape Town's established event-catering format — a whole lamb slow-roasted over coals for about six hours, carved and basted on site while your guests watch. Ours is the premium tier of that tradition: A-grade lamb, plated sides, professional staffing and a fixed itemised quote before you commit.
The format suits weddings, 21sts, corporate year-end functions and sports events from 20 to 500 guests. The per-person rate scales down as the headcount rises, and whole-lamb event packages bundle the equipment, the fire and the theatre into one line.
Existing spit operators compete on volume. We compete on the plate: the same sourcing, seasoning and service discipline as our private chef dinners, applied to a fire big enough for a crowd.
Per-person pricing that scales with your headcount
Smaller events carry a higher per-person rate; at 100 guests and up the rate drops to its lowest published band. Whole-lamb event packages run per event, with staffing, equipment and weather cover included in the quote.
These numbers are orientation — the fixed quote follows your date, venue and menu, and it is itemised: lamb, sides, staff, rentals and travel as separate lines. VAT treatment is stated, and festive multipliers are published on the pricing page.

Three event packages
Classic Spit is the whole lamb with sides and salads. Premium Spit adds snoek over coals and plated sides with table service. Celebration Spit is the full theatre — multiple spits where headcount demands, front-of-house staffing and rentals coordination handled for you.
Every package is halaal-friendly with strict protocols: separate equipment, separate prep, certified-supplier meat on request. Tell us at enquiry and it is planned in, not patched on.

Operations, proven on site
A spit braai is logistics wearing an apron. Four things decide whether it works, and we own all four:
- Equipment and setup — spits, grids, coals and carving stations arrive with us; your venue needs no kit
- Weather plans — covered stations and wind positioning agreed the day before, generator-ready kit standard
- Staffing — waiters, carvers and bar staff at published hourly rates, four-hour minimums
- Site visit — for events of 100 guests and up, we walk the venue with you before we quote
Six hours on the spit — how the day runs
The lamb goes on roughly six hours before carving. The first two hours build the coal bed; the meat turns low and slow through the afternoon, basted on a schedule, while sides are prepped and the salads are built on site.
Carving starts at the agreed time, not when the fire dictates — the chef works backwards from your speeches, your first dance or your final whistle. Guests eat in one wave at small events, or in serviced waves past the carving station at large ones.
Vegetarian and halaal-friendly guests are catered as full citizens of the menu, not as an afterthought line — dedicated grills and prep for halaal-friendly with strict protocols, and vegetarian mains that were designed, not improvised.
Cleanup is part of the format: coals managed down safely, equipment out, the site left as we found it.
Included, and quoted separately
The honesty table — both columns, always.
Included
- the lamb, sides and salads, spit equipment, coals, fire management and carving
- setup, service and full site cleanup, plus the menu consult and venue coordination
Quoted separately

Where a spit braai works best
Winelands estate weddings where the fire becomes the gathering point. 21sts and milestone birthdays on private plots. Corporate year-end functions that need to feed two hundred people without a queue. Sports-club finales where the carving station is the after-party.
We publish the whole market's numbers, not just our own — the spit braai price guide in our journal shows what the volume operators charge and what the premium tier buys. Compare us on the same page, then book on the numbers.
Dates in the October-to-December events window and the autumn wedding season go first. One message with your date, headcount and venue is enough to hold a provisional slot while the quote is built.
