Hout Bay & Llandudno, covered

myCHEF serves Hout Bay and Llandudno with private chef dinners from R850 per person, the Cape seafood journey from R1,350, and beach-house braais — travel included, because both sit in Zone 1.

One over Constantia Nek is a working harbour town; the other, over the next hill, is a residential enclave with no shops or restaurants at all. Both are outstanding private-chef territory for opposite reasons.

Hout Bay — seafood with a provenance story

Hout Bay's harbour still lands fish. Snoek and yellowtail run in the summer season, the winter snoek run follows, and the Bay Harbour Market keeps the town's food energy honest. When we cook seafood in Hout Bay, the sourcing story is short: licensed local fishers, the morning's landing, your table by evening.

Kreef — West Coast rock lobster — appears only in the gazetted season and only from licensed commercial suppliers; recreational catch may not be sold, and we follow that to the letter. In season, kreef on the braai with lemon butter is the Cape's definitive delicacy, and we treat it that way.

Winter flips the menu but not the appeal: the winter snoek run, slow fish curries, and chowder-weather dinners while the harbour works through the swell. Hout Bay is a year-round kitchen, not a summer fling.

Llandudno — in-villa dining is the option

Llandudno has no restaurants, no cafés, no corner shop. The nearest dining is about fifteen minutes away in Hout Bay or Camps Bay — over the hill, after dark, on roads nobody wants to drive mid-dinner. Guests rent here for the seclusion; dinner has to come to them.

So it does. The beach houses are built for long tables above one of the city's most beautiful beaches, and a private chef turns the enforced stay-in into the point of the trip. Access via Chapman's Peak Drive or the Nek is factored into load-in timing — the drive is scenic, and we schedule it.

Services available here

The Cape seafood journey, classic private chef dinners, and snoek-on-the-braai with apricot glaze — the harbour's own dish.

Logistics: Nek, pass and beach house

Hout Bay load-ins come over Constantia Nek or around Chapman's Peak; Llandudno adds the final hill. Both are Zone 1 — the travel is included either way. Beach-house kitchens get the usual scout, and winter whale-season weekends book early along this coast.

  • Load-in timed over the Nek or Chapman's Peak
  • Chapman's Peak closures checked for event dates
  • Beach-house kitchens scouted, induction backup standard
  • Whale-season (Jun–Nov) weekends book early

A sample evening in Llandudno

A beach-house dinner for ten above the sand, midsummer — the enclave's signature booking.

  1. 0115:00 — team over the Nek, load-in while the house is at the beach
  2. 0218:30 — canapés on the deck as the beach empties
  3. 0319:10 — first course: the morning's linefish
  4. 0419:50 — main plated at sunset; no restaurant could seat this view
  5. 0520:45 — dessert, coffee, and the sound of the surf
  6. 0622:00 — kitchen reset; the enclave goes dark and quiet

The Bay Harbour Market effect

Hout Bay's weekend market keeps the town's food culture visible and our sourcing close to home. Groups staying in the valley often pair a market morning with a private dinner the same evening — produce seen at lunch, eaten at dinner. Estate properties on the slopes above the harbour, from Silvermist to the hanging valleys, all fall inside Zone 1.
