The City Bowl, covered

myCHEF serves the City Bowl — Gardens, Tamboerskloof, Oranjezicht, Vredehoek and the CBD — with private chef dinners from R1,150 per person for small tables, plus chef days and event catering. All Zone 1, travel included.

This is the city's dinner-party suburb set: young professionals, heritage Victorian homes, and apartments within walking distance of the Kloof and Bree Street corridors. The private-chef format here is smaller tables, sharper menus, weeknights included.

Why the City Bowl is special for private dining

The housing stock does half the work. Victorian and Edwardian homes in Tamboerskloof and Oranjezicht come with dining rooms built for long evenings — high ceilings, working fireplaces, stoeps that catch the last light on Table Mountain. Cooking in these houses feels like restoring their original purpose.

And the sourcing is on our doorstep. Gardens delis, the Oranjezicht City Farm Market on weekend mornings, and the city's best butchers sit minutes from your kitchen — the morning shop for a City Bowl dinner is a short, excellent errand. Groceries bill at cost, receipts attached.

The guest mix keeps us sharp: birthday tables in Gardens, anniversary dinners in Tamboerskloof, small corporate boards in CBD apartments, and the annual Kaapse Klopse week in January when the whole neighbourhood celebrates. City Bowl bookings skew smaller and more frequent than the villa suburbs — a dinner for four on a Thursday is as normal here as a feast for sixteen on the Seaboard.

City logistics

City Bowl logistics are the easy kind: short drives, quick load-ins, and street parking that behaves outside the evening rush. Older homes sometimes mean older ovens — we check equipment in the consult and bring induction backup where a heritage kitchen needs it.

Slope-side suburbs mean stairs: Tamboerskloof and Oranjezicht homes often sit above the road, and Vredehoek flats stack upward. Load-in plans account for the climb — it is why we ask for access photos before the day, not after.

  • Short-load logistics, weeknight-friendly timing
  • Heritage ovens checked; induction backup standard
  • Market-fresh sourcing from Gardens and Oranjezicht
  • Fireplace-season menus for winter dinner parties

Sourcing on our doorstep

No area we serve shops shorter than the City Bowl. The morning run for a Gardens dinner takes under an hour: the Oranjezicht market on weekends, specialist delis and butchers along Kloof Street, and fish from the Seaboard fishmongers ten minutes over the hill. Shorter supply lines mean day-of flexibility — a guest count change at noon is a solvable problem here.

The Kloof and Bree Street corridors also set the neighbourhood's dining expectations high. We cook to match them, in your dining room, with groceries billed at cost and receipts on the invoice.
